My name is Inara, and I've been bellydancing since 2001. You can find me dancing at local restaurants and parties, or continuing to take lessons (I don't think you should ever stop learning!) with my instructor in Naples. I also travel to Miami (and all over!) to attend workshops. I perform many different styles and fusions of bellydance.
I didn't know what I was getting into when I started taking lessons. Shy and reserved as I had always been (not to mention quite a tomboy!), I was somehow eventually convinced to try performing at a local Greek restaurant. The first night was hard - I was so nervous. But it seemed to go well, and I actually had fun. Before I knew it, I was performing on a fairly regular basis at restaurants and parties, thanks to my instructor. Anyone who knew me before I moved here and started dancing couldn't believe the stories I told them about being a bellydancer. To them I was still the quiet scientist who rarely even wore dresses. But somehow I immediately loved everything about it - the music, the movement, the jingles, the sparkles....perhaps specifically because it was such a departure from my "norm".
I realized that bellydance was a great way to not only get exercise, but express yourself and your creativity, build self esteem, make great friendships and become a part of an exciting, growing dance community. I thought it would be so great to share this with as many other women as I can. So, I created Fire in the Belly, with the hopes of sparking a new passion in others.
My newest adventure is joining Naples first bellydance studio and a new performing troupe! I am excited to be a part of Ansuya Rathor's new studio and troupe. Ansuya is an internationally-known Bellydance Superstar who is sought after all over the world for performances and workshops. She moved to our area recently and we are working hard to put together a variety of stellar shows for local public and private events. We are also enjoying watching our first round of students find their new passion. Come visit us at the studio or watch for us around town...you never know where we might turn up!
